Dr Bobby Griffin was brought up on the remote peninsula of Kintyre, on the west coast of Scotland, and graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (with academic commendation) from the University of Dundee in 1999 – the first member of his family to receive a University education.
After spending 3 years working as a dentist under the National Health Service in rural and remote areas of Scotland, Bobby took up a general practice post in York, England, where he met his wife-to-be, Anita.
In 2004 Bobby immigrated to rural Western Australia, working in the Public and Private sectors of Dentistry. Following their marriage in 2006, Bobby and Anita (also a dentist) took up a volunteer post at Wuchopperen, Cairns. Over time, Cairns became home to Bobby and Anita, and Bobby therefore embarked on his long-held dream of specialization in Orthodontics, after 12 years of general dentistry.
In 2010, by gaining a Pass in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Primary examinations at the first attempt (the toughest set of exams a dentist will ever sit), Bobby earned the credentials to apply for specialist training.
Bobby graduated from James Cook University with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (D.Clin.Dent) degree in Orthodontics in June 2014. This is a 3 year, full time training post, accredited by the Dental Board of Australia as being suitable for registration with AHPRA as a Specialist Orthodontist. Since then he has extended his postgraduate qualifications by becoming accredited by the Australasian Orthodontic Board, and gaining the following prestigious Diplomas:
Bobby continues to maintain close links with James Cook University, and provides tutoring and mentorship to the undergraduate dental students of JCU. He is also an active member of the Australian Dental Association, and the Australasian Society of Orthodontists.
Bobby is also in the process of extending his innovative postgraduate research work into a PhD.
Besides his clear passion for science and dentistry, Bobby is a family man, and spends much of his time enjoying life with his wife Anita, and son, Sachin. But, as a release, Bobby has an alter-ego, being the lead guitarist in local rock band, The Pulp Stones!
